Days 5 and 6; Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 12-13

This Saturday, everyone got to sleep in a little later than usual and began heading to Monteverde around 9am. Our journey up to Montreverde was very interesting. On the way up to Monteverde we had a flat tire and had to pull over and change the tire. When the tire was changed we all loaded back up onto the bus and continued our journey. We then decided to pull over at a fruit stand on the side of a road to use restrooms and buy snacks. When we all loaded back on the bus it wouldn’t start back up again. The bus driver tried everything he could but the bus just would not start. We all made ourselves comfortable and waited for another bus to come pick us up. While we waited, everyone bought really fresh fruit and practiced our Spanish with the locals. Our bus finally arrived about an hour and a half later and everyone was eager to sit in the air-conditioned bus. When we arrived at the hotel we all got our room keys and headed up to our rooms to get ready for dinner. After dinner everyone changed into something warm to go on a night tour through the forest. On the night tour we spotted a bug called the “moss walking stick”. Our tour guide told us that this bug is super hard to spot and that only one in a million groups see this bug when they go on a night tour. He also told us that buyers will pay up to $10,000 to get their hands on this species of bug, so it was really exciting to see! After the tour everyone was extremely tired so we all headed up to bed.

On Sunday we woke up extremely early to be on the bus by 6:30am. We then headed down to breakfast at the restaurant at the hotel. After breakfast, we all loaded back up onto the bus and went to the destination where we would be hiking. When we arrived at our destination, we split up into two groups and began the hikes with a tour guide. During the hike, we saw many different types of birds and plants.  Our tour guide had a telescope and was able to zoom up to two very beautiful, multicolored birds. We all went onto a bridge in the middle of the forest and the view was absolutely breathtaking. After the tour, we went back to the hotel to eat lunch and check out. On our way back to Heredia we went back to our favorite fruit stand to stock up on our favorite snacks. Finally, we all got dropped back off at our family’s homes!
